It is the leading newspaper of Castellón, leader in audience and circulation in print and leader in digital and social networks in the province.
The Diario de Castellón was founded in 1924. On June 14, 1938, it adopted the title of Mediterráneo, in force until today. It is the longest-running newspaper in the history of Castellón journalism thanks to its balanced, rigorous and committed editorial line in defense of the interests of the city.
Since June 2019, it has been published by Prensa Ibérica, a leading Spanish regional press group, after the acquisition of Grupo Zeta. Mediterráneo has two editions, Castellón and Vila-real, while it publishes other publications, including El Periódico del Azulejo, nine municipal Chronicles from as many cities in the province and the monthly society magazine Gente.
